If you’re seeking the peace and quiet of a waterfront lifestyle, Laurelhurst and Windermere are great communities to live in. Families love the endless fun that living here provides all while being just northeast of downtown, making a commute much more hassle-free than in some of Seattle’s more distant suburbs. Laurelhurst is also just east of the University of Washington, making it a great option for those who work at the university or have children planning to attend.

Laurelhurst and Windermere have a variety of great shopping and dining options close by. One of the most popular destinations is University Village, an alfresco mall situated near the University of Washington that serves as the primary shopping hub for residents of Northeast Seattle. You’ll find a variety of high-end and affordable clothing/accessory retailers such as Madewell, houseware storefronts like Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonomaand Restoration Hardware, electronics stores such as Apple, and a ton of great dining options, including Juice Press. It’s truly a one-stop-shop, with everything you need during a day of shopping all in one convenient location.

Other great dining and drinking spots include Din Tai Fung, Mama Melina, Ba BarJak’s Grill, a neighborhood steakhouse known for serving some of the finest cuts of meat in Northeast Seattle, along with other favorites such as Rachel's Ginger Beer and Pasta & Co

Things to Do

Considering their great waterfront location, there’s always something fun to do in Laurelhurst and Windermere, especially on warm summer days. A great place to spend a day with family and friends is the private Laurelhurst Beach Club, which offers swimming, boating, sailing, and kayaking as well as classes, camps, and community events. Both districts also have a variety of public water access options that are perfect for spending a day on the beautiful expanse of Lake Washington.

One of the other fun aspects of living in the area is its proximity to the University of Washington, meaning residents can easily walk to campus events and activities, including lively football games. Sports lovers can also enjoy a game of their own at the Laurelhurst Playfield, a large public park with tennis courts, a soccer field, and a baseball/softball field. Nearby, you can check out the Laurelhurst Community Center, a local landmark that serves as a meeting place for residents. Visit the Sand Point Country Club - a private golf club with country club amenities. At the northern end of Windermere, you’ll find Warren G. Magnuson Park, well-known for its walking trails, public art installations, and gorgeous views of Lake Washington.
